Overview And Highlights
This short Budget tour will give you a brief introduction to “Nepal south of the Himalayan chain.” Explore the landmarks in two of our major cities. The road journey between them will introduce you to rural, agricultural, Nepal: its Middle Hill forested scenery and glimpses of the high Himalaya to the north.
Despite the devastation caused by the recent earthquakes in Kathmandu, we still have much to offer that will show you the richness of our architectural, spiritual and cultural history. We
have been shaken by the recent events, but the spirit, warmth and friendliness of our welcome remains, everywhere, sincere. Enjoy our cuisine and revel in the diversity of our ethnic, linguistic and spiritual diversity.
Spend a day visiting five of the Kathmandu Valley’s World Heritage Sites: Swayambhunath (the “monkey temple”); the city’s historical Durbar Square with ancient temples, unique art
and architecture; Patan’s Durbar Square; the Hindu temple Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath, the world’s largest stupa.
Take an early morning tourist bus westwards to the holiday playground of Pokhara; which nestles between Lake Phewa and the 50km Annapurna Range to the north.
Visit the main sites in and around the city including; Nepal’s only Mountain Museum; the Tibetan Refugee Centre with displays of Tibetan crafts including Buddhist icons and carpets.
Watch sunset from the Peace Pagoda on the lake.
Enjoy a panoramic Himalayan sunrise from the hill village of Sarangkot (showcasing three of the world’s fourteen 8 000m peaks). Return to the hotel for breakfast before boarding a
tourist bus for the return drive to Kathmandu; and your hotel. Rest of day free. (A return flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu can be arranged should you not wish to drive both ways.)
